Maintaining the Life of Your Garage Door

Are you the proud owner of a home in Union City, Georgia? If you are and you own a home with a garage, did you know that there are some things you can do to preserve the life of your garage door? Have you ever seen those garage doors that are an eye-sore and they destroy the curb-appeal of the neighborhood? Make sure your home doesn’t become this home. If you want to maintain the look and functioning of your garage door, you will have to do something to make sure that it can and will. Most people go in and out of their garage never considering the maintenance of their garage door. At Garage Door Masters, we help many homeowners preserve the life of their garage door by assisting them their garage door maintenance. This is really what it is all about, maintenance.

The maintenance of your garage door will ultimately determine how long your garage door will last. If you are experiencing too many issues with your garage door at one time, it can become unsafe to use. While you can begin attacking each problem, one at a time, you may not be able to use your garage during the repairs. This would be a huge inconvenience to you and your household. This is just one of the reasons homeowners simply opt to have a new garage door installed instead. However, what if you just love your garage door because you took the time to choose the exact garage door that you wanted that stands out from everyone else’s? You would certainly want to preserve the life of your garage door. It is absolutely possible to do so either if you allow our garage door service technicians to handle the job for you or you handle it on your own.
Since your garage door is likely the largest moving part of your home equipment, you need to be careful when it is starting to have problems. It is also made up of a lot of moving parts that enable it to run smoothly.

You don’t want to wait until you start to experience problems with these parts of your garage door. If you are going to preserve your garage door, you have to consider what you will do now to make sure you can keep your garage door functioning as long as possible. When you have regular maintenance performed on your garage door or you are performing regular maintenance, it is possible for your garage door to last for up to 30 years or possibly a lifetime. We have put together a couple of tips to help you maintain the life of your garage door as long as possible.

  • Lubricating Parts

It is especially important to have the moving parts of your garage door lubricated. They suffer the most wear. You can replace many of these parts but if you can maintain your garage door, you won’t have to worry about doing this. The cables, rollers, panels and springs need to be lubricated regularly. This will prevent them from working harder than they have too and save you money by having them longer and not having to replace them.

  • Clean Parts

Your garage door is an extension of your home and should be treated as such. Just like you would clean your home with soap and water, you would do the same with your garage door. You can take a mild soap from time to time and wipe down the parts of your garage door that are prone to rust. Scrub anything that looks like there is a lot of dirt on any parts of the door. The only problem is that you may not be able to get to all of the parts or know where they are located. This means that you may still have parts that will rust. Again, this is another good reason to consider allowing a garage door service to address your garage door maintenance needs. If you’re trying to wipe the outside of your door clean and it just doesn’t seem to be working, you might need to apply a new coat of paint to give your door the luster it once had.

  • Evaluate the Balance

The longer your door is improperly balanced the worse the door will become. It will begin to function badly and puts undo pressure on the garage door opener. This is a good enough reason to check the door balance regularly or to have it checked regularly. If you decide that you want to handle this on your own, you will need to lift the door up about 2-feet up off the ground and step back to check the balanced. If the door closes by itself, you will know it is not balanced. When you have determined that it needs to be balanced, call on a professional garage door professional in Union City, GA, to handle the job for you.

  • Check Safety Sensors

You should always be concerned with your safety sensors. Inspect your sensors to make sure they are working correctly. Again, if you decide to handle this on your own, close the door and but something in front of the beams. If the sensors of your garage door are functioning properly, the door will begin to reverse. You can also check the safety sensors by sticking your hands out to see if the door will reverse on its own. If the door continues to advance, there is a problem and you should bring it to the attention of a qualified professional, Even if you don’t want a professional garage door service to handle the maintenance of your garage door, it might be a good idea to ask for an annual inspection. The expert garage door service technician will tell you where you need repairs or what might be wrong with your door. Attending to this right away, instead of prolonging the repairs, will help to prolong the life of your garage door.

Identifying garage door spring issues

Have you ever wondered if you are having garage door spring issues? Maybe the problem is something else, like your opener unit or your cables. How can you really tell? Maybe you wanted to know but were hesitant to call a garage door repair technician because of diagnostic charges or the fear of looking “dumb.” Don’t worry; you are not alone. Here at Garage Door Masters we often get calls about possible spring problems and the homeowners often tell us that they are guessing due to not being able to pinpoint the actual problem. Union City, GA has many repair shops where garage door issues can be detected and fixed but you don’t have to call any of us to actually know about spring issues; we’ll tell you how to spot them right away right here on this post. So what’s the point of learning this? Don’t you still have to call for repair? Why not let your garage door repair experts find the problem and fix it like they are paid to do?

False alarm

Surprise! Your problem may not be spring related at all! It’s nice to know whether it is or not. You might not need a service call from a local garage door repair tech at all! We’ll show you some fast and easy checks to see what the problem might be and then if you need spring repair or replacement, go ahead and make an appointment.

Do it yourself checks include making sure your remote battery is good, keeping items out of the way of your safety sensors and keeping your garage door tracks clear of debris and other items that may impede the movement of the rollers. You can do these checks quickly and easily and without incurring any cost at all. A run down battery in your remote can send a random signal to your opener or it can be too weak to send a signal at all. Since your garage door isn’t working, you might mistake this for a spring issue when it’s not. A clogged garage door track can send you’re raising or lowering garage door back down or up because the rollers cannot move all the way and this too might be mistaken for spring problems.

A little background

All garage door springs are not alike. They come in two main categories; torsion and extension springs. They do the same basic job; they lift and lower your several hundred pound garage door whenever you come and go. It’s not your opener that does the work; it’s really your springs that get the job done! Torsion springs are the ones most commonly used in new homes being built today. They last longer and are generally safer to operate and service. They also cost more but it’s not a huge difference. If you have torsion springs, they are located on the inside of your garage door, on top, and are mounted horizontally. They usually last about 15 to 20 thousand cycles with a full cycle being one opening and one closing of your garage door.

On the other hand, extension springs are the older variety. These are mounted vertically on either side of your garage door, on the inside, and since they extend or expand on use, they can be quite dangerous if they break. They cost a little less than the torsion variety and are usually only good for about half the cycles, too.

Warning indicators

As ominous as that sounds, there are signs that you are experiencing honest to goodness spring issues. Here are some:

Does your garage door start to go up, but only slowly, and then suddenly it starts to continue upward really fast?

When your garage door is closed, does it look lopsided or tilted to one side? This partially squashed look is due to one of your springs being damaged.

Did your garage door start to go up and then suddenly stop; about halfway up?

When your garage door is moving either up or down, does it look like one side is moving faster than the other? Is one side “struggling” to catch up?

When operating your garage door with your remote or with your wall button does it seem like one side is doing all the work and the other side is going along for the ride?

Is your garage door unresponsive when you tapped the remote or the wall button? Is your car seemingly trapped inside?

Did your garage door give off a loud snap or bang sound when you were attempting to operate it?

These are some (by no means all) of the symptoms of damaged garage door springs. If you’ve done the preliminary checks mentioned above and notice any of these signs, you most likely have spring damage.

Can I repair my own springs?

We don’t recommend you even trying. First of all, spring repair, installation or maintenance of any kind is flat out dangerous. Every year people are hurt or even killed by attempting to do this very thing. We understand that you might like do-it-yourself projects, or that you might want to save money over calling a repair professional. The fact is that you most likely lack the training, tools and experienced needed to service your torsion or extension springs and since both are dangerous, we recommend that you forgo the repair job, on your own. You can sustain injuries, void out your warranty and cause property damage all at the same time; not worth it at all!

Call a pro!

When you need a cavity filled, do you do it yourself? When your roof need re-tiled, do you do it yourself? You most call a professional and that’s exactly what you should do in this case. Spring repair or replacement should not be taken lightly. Get good quality springs, have them installed correctly and maintain them according to what your garage door repair specialist tells you. Your springs will repay you with reliable service and safe usage for many years to come!

HOW TO SAFEGUARD YOUR GARAGE FROM EXTREME TEMPERATURES

Does your garage double as a laundry room, den, game room, workshop, or office? When your garage exists for more than just storing your automobile, then it’s essential to have an insulated garage door. When your garage is properly insulated, you’ll achieve maximized thermal efficiency with optimized air infiltration reduction. Regardless of what the weather is outside, a well-insulated garage using the right sealant provides you with a functional garage space all year round, making you comfortable and giving you the highest level of efficiency. You’ll benefit from considerable energy savings. You’ll keep as much heat out as possible in summer, and as much cold out as possible in winter.

Garage door sealant is for protecting against snow, moisture, and colder weather in general. Dry rot can also be a culprit. Often the bottom weather seal is the one you’ll have to replace. There are many different sizes, so you’ll need an inspection to figure out the correct type for your garage door. The vinyl top and side seals also break down over time. These come in various colors to match whatever sort of garage door you have.

If you see any damage, feel any air leaking in, or light coming through any place, then it’s time to get new garage door sealants ~ also referred to as weather seals or weatherstripping ~ they are obviously for applying to the garage door’s four edges. To be most effective, they must perfectly fit your particular garage door.

Not only do weather seals guard your garage door from temperature extremes, they also keep out small creatures as well as insects. If there are any gaps on the garage door, vermin or even neighborhood pets are able to sneak inside your garage, and some may not be able to get out. Prevent this scenario from happening with superior-quality bottom weather seals. Various kinds include: T-shape, P-shape, bulb shape, and triple contact. You’ll also stop dust and fumes from entering. Brush seals have bristles, which significantly help reduce dust particles from staying on your garage door. To prevent water from coming in whenever it rains, make sure there are not any gaps at the bottom of the garage door. Stop cold air and moisture from penetrating the garage with a top-of-the-line garage door weather seal. An ideal sealant is the threshold seal, made of hard rubber. The optimal weather sealant for your property will also be a successful barrier both to keep out debris and to continuously maintain a smooth garage door pathway.

There are so many different choices, depending upon the garage’s uses; your property in general; the garage door itself; and your budget, taste, and particular requirements. For most people, insulating the garage yourself is an overwhelming task to anticipate. If it’s too intimidating for you, hire a professional to do the installation for you. If you’re anywhere in Union City, Georgia, find a reputable staff mobile expert at a trustworthy garage door company, such as the aptly named Garage Door Masters.

Protection in Hot Weather

During summer, the major goal is to enhance the airflow in your garage. Consider taking these measures:

Wall insulation efficiently keeps out the summer heat. Paneling or wallboard should be used to encapsulate the material. You’ll prevent toddlers, teenagers, and pets from tearing things out.

Insulate the garage overhead door. For a metal garage door, add a layer of rigid insulation two inches thick, attached to each panel’s inside using contact cement. Or, an insulated sectional overhead door is a viable alternative.

Insulate the ceiling of the garage. With paper-backed batt insulation, ceiling wallboard isn’t needed. Install the insulation using staples, paper side down, or keep it anchored with netting. You can also use staples to secure the netting. Experts recommend that you do both.

Plant a tree close by. A deciduous or hardwood tree is an economical and aesthetic way to cool down the garage. (It keeps your garage warm during winter, also.) Plant your tree between the position of the sun during the hottest part of the day and the garage. The leaves will provide shade. (And, during winter, the bare branches will permit the sunlight to shine through, supplying the warmth you need.)

An adjustable rollaway awning attached to the sunny side of your garage will create shade cooling things off.

A stationary vent on the roof is an inexpensive way to make an exit point for hot air trapped inside the garage attic. Or, if you can afford it, install a mechanical exhaust system, in which fans will draw cooler air from the garage into the attic. You’ll cool the attic as well as the space below.

Protection in Cold Weather

Even if the temperature drops below freezing, if you have winterized your garage, you’ll save a lot of money and time.

Insulate your garage. If your garage gets too cold, it can damage not only your vehicle, but also anything you store there. Do you keep the washer and dryer in your garage? If you have a washing machine with water left in the lines or the pump, it can freeze and crack. The same risk is possible with your car’s fuel gels, which can freeze inside the engine. Another possibility is that paint can separate and get ruined during prolonged periods of freezing temperatures.

Insulate the garage door. A variety of products is available to you for garage door insulation, including a kit designed for the purpose. The options for effective insulation include reflective barriers, foam board, and fiberglass batt insulation. Whatever you choose, first you’ll have to cut the insulation to fill the garage door panels. Fasten them with adhesive and be sure each stays firmly in place. The whole project will be easier if your garage door isn’t the kind that has recessed panels.

Insulate the garage walls. Proper garage insulation installation requires that you study the installation guide carefully so you can be sure you select the insulation thickness that’s appropriate for your garage’s walls. Some common mistakes people make are: cutting the batt insulation too short or too long for the location, not fastening it securely, or not supporting it correctly. Bear in mind that insulation has to fit snugly; however, don’t jam it in too tightly.

Garage Door Masters: Garage Door Spring System vs. Pulley System

Union City Track Repair
If you are in Union City, GA and have questions about spring systems versus pulley systems, be sure to reach out to Garage Door Masters. There are so many different parts and terminology when it comes to how a garage door operates that it can become quite confusing. To put it briefly, extension springs count on a system that consists of garage door pulleys and cables to do their job, which is to safely open the garage door and of course to close it. This is the most basic information to consider if you are curious about springs and pulleys. But here, we will go into more detail so you have a better idea of how all of the parts work. It is good to know how your garage door works – this way, if something goes wrong, you will have a better idea of how to fix it. In addition, you might want to know more about actual pulley systems – this is something that some homeowners attempt to build on their own, and there is sometimes confusion when looking for pulley parts versus systems.

Check it out!

“Garage door springs” is a term that usually refers to extension springs or torsion springs. If you know anything about springs, you might know that they are connected to a lot of tension – they have to support a great deal of weight. Basically, your garage door is very heavy, weighing hundreds of pounds quite often – and the springs have to be able to support it. Therefore, they have to be in good shape, all of the time.
All parts work together in sync so that you can enjoy a garage door that stays in place, and opens and closes safely and smoothly. Some parts are more dangerous than others, however, if they break. Springs are critical to overall functioning.

Pulley System

If you do a search online, you can find videos on how to create a garage pulley storage system. You can find information on how to hang certain items from your garage ceiling. Let’s just say, things can get confusing if you are just trying to figure out how different components work. If you search on Google, you will find that Amazon has different options, like garage “gators” and platforms, as well as hoists. You will find parts that are meant to build a DIY pulley system. So, why would one want to create a pulley system, anyway? This is something that many homeowners toy around with because they need more garage space. Let’s face it – nowadays, people tend to acquire a lot of items, and space is limited. Unless you have a mansion that you live in, a shed to store all of your tools, a garage to store your cars, and then an extra storage unit, you likely will find yourself running out of space. Even if you do have all of these things, this is still often times the case! You can utilize the convenience of a pulley system to attach a platform to the ceiling of your garage, which will thereby create more storage space for you. Best of all, this storage space will not be in the way – it won’t take up any additional room in the garage. If you consider yourself a very handy person who has experience with DIY projects, then you might attempt to build your own pulley system. This will entail using lumber, a storage platform, 2 by 4s, wood screws, plywood and more. If you aren’t comfortable working with all of these different materials, then your best bet is to hire a professional service or contractor.

Garage Door Spring System

Spring systems can consist of the following terms: extension springs, tension springs, torsion springs, EZ set springs and more. When talking about spring systems, the reference is typically to any springs that make the garage door operate. The springs tend to be located either above the opening of the garage door or sometimes at the ends of the tracks. It all merely depends on the types of springs that your garage door is using. If you’re going to install a pulley system for storage, then you want to know how to work with springs, and you will want to know how important it is to cautiously work with them. For this reason, people often times turn to an expert when they have questions about pulley systems versus spring systems.
Garage Door Rollup Gates Services
If you pull up spring systems online, you’re going to find terminology such as single Ez-set torsion spring replacement, OEM torsion springs, extension springs, Wayne Dalton torquemaster garage door spring, and more. This can make finding what you are looking for confusing, which is why it is always recommended that you speak directly to an expert. Most will offer a free consultation over the phone, allowing you to get all of the information that you are looking for, without any pressure to make a purchase or schedule a service.

Hopefully you have a better idea of how pulleys and springs work to make your garage door function smoothly – and it is our hope that you understand why people build pulley systems for their garage space. It is always a wise idea to turn to an expert when you are dealing with parts that you aren’t very familiar with. It is always best to leave certain things in the hands of experts who understand what they are doing, and who are licensed and insured to ensure your property is protected.
Thanks for checking out more information about spring systems and pulley systems. Remember to call Garage Door Masters in Union City, Georgia if you happen to be in the area and have any questions. Problems With Your Garage Door Opening

It is possible for your garage door to get stuck on some occasions. This is one reason that some people get so frustrated with their garage door. When you don’t know one minute to the next if your garage door will open or not. If you begin to experience a problem with your garage door opening, you can always count on the services of Garage Door Masters in Union City, GA. They have received the appropriate training needed to effectively handle the job of getting your garage door moving again. They know the many different reasons why this problem might occur and are sure to be able to get to the bottom of the problem in no time.

You may want to do some research to determine how you can resolve this problem on your own. The problem could become worse if you should happen to hit one of the moving parts of your door and actually cause harm to yourself or someone else. This is a job that is better evaluated and resolved by a trained professional. The problem might be simple or it could be a little more complex. If this is the case, it is definitely in your best interest to allow a qualified garage door service professional to address the problem for you. While we certainly do not try to discourage homeowners from performing certain things on their own, we know that doing something like repairing a garage door can become dangerous. We want to make sure that you are not putting yourself in harm’s way when you do not have to.

If you’re interested in knowing why your garage door will not open, here are some of the most identified reasons you might experience this problem.

Blocked Sensors – Your garage door has photo eyes that serve to protect you. It is a safety feature designed to alarm you of something blocking your garage door. If there is anything obstructing the photo eyes of your door it will automatically keep the door from continuing to close. This feature is to prevent the door from falling down on you or your car. Inspect the eyes to make sure that there is nothing blocking the sensors or any debris on them. If they are misaligned, this will also prevent the door from closing. So, you can remove any debris that you notice on the lens of the photo eyes and you can realign the eyes so that the beams can communicate with each other, making it possible for the door to close.

Transmitter – If your garage door transmitter isn’t working properly, it will prevent the door from closing. You might be stunned to find out that the problem is as easy to resolve as just replacing the batteries to the wall unit transmitter. The car and the wall transmitters need to effectively communicate with one another. If one is fully functional and the other isn’t, this means that the door will not close. If it was determined that this was the problem, you may want to go ahead and change the batteries to the remote inside the car also. It is likely that they will need to be replaced soon anyway. This is something that we wouldn’t object to the homeowner doing on their own. The risk of harm is minimum.

Tracks – If you have misaligned tracks, believe it or not, it can prevent your door from closing all the way. The track has to be aligned in order for the door to run on

It. The door is very heavy and could be the cause of your track becoming misaligned. Having a track in this condition can also make it dangerous to operate your garage door. If you listen out for a rubbing noise when you drive in and out of your garage, this is a sign of a misaligned track. If you pay close enough attention, you might find that the door will slow down once it reaches a specific point in your track. By gently tapping the track, it may be logged back in place. To make certain the track is straight, you’ll need a level.

Transmitter Out of Range – Your car must be in a certain range of your garage door in order for the transmitter to effectively communicate with your wall transmitter. In some cases, your door may not open because you are too far away from your garage door. If you’re not in front of your door when you are attempting to open it, you may run into the problem of your door opening. We would advise you to wait until you are directly in front of the garage before you attempt to hit the open button on your remote.

If this doesn’t seem to be the problem, you may need to check to make sure your antenna isn’t being blocked by something. When the antenna is blocked it cannot send it will not send the necessary signal to operate the door. If the antenna is damaged, it will also prevent the door from opening. You’ll need to contact a garage door service technician to repair or replace the antenna for you.

These are only some of the reasons why you might have trouble with your garage door opening. They are surely the most uncomplicated reasons why this problem might occur. We find that many of these problems can resolve fairly easy without incident. This is why we are happy to present this information to you. You can make the repairs or adjustments without being harmed. Surely, we are always here for you when you want a professional opinion and someone with the necessary skills to address the problem that you are experiencing. Don’t continue to inconvenience yourself, even after you have been able to open the door. You never know when the same problem will occur again. SECTIONED GARAGE DOOR VS SOLID GARAGE DOOR– Pros and cons

Here at Garage Door Masters, we are sometimes asked what we think of solid versus sectioned garage doors. Our answer may surprise you; it is this; what do You want? Yep, we are answering a question with a question and this is why. There are pros and cons to both and it’s really up to you to decide which is best for your particular needs. Here in Union City, GA it’s possible to get both kinds of door so read our post and call us or your favorite local garage door repair shop and ask any questions that you may have.

Their differences

Solid garage doors are just that; solid! They are one piece, rigid slabs from top to bottom and from side to side. The whole door moves upwards in one piece when you open it. Yes, you can still use an automatic garage door opener or you can manually operate your solid garage door. Obviously, if it moves together in one single piece, it will swing outward first, so be sure to keep the garage door’s path cleared to avoid damage to property or injury to anyone in its way.

A sectioned garage door is the most likely the one that most of our Union City, GA customers are familiar with. These do not have to swing way out in order to close as they door is made up of sections that are hinged together. This is where your garage door tracks come into play as the door rises or lowers straight up or down by using rollers inside the track system.  With sectioned garage doors there never a need to “clear the path” before it and like the solid door types you can open and close your garage door by hand or by using your garage door opener system.

Times do change; after all, not too long ago, most all residential homes that had garage doors used the solid ones or tilt ups as they are sometimes called. The sectioned garage doors were around but mostly used for businesses and industrial garages. Today, most people prefer the sectional doors for their homes and almost all builders will automatically install them in new home construction.

Benefits of having a solid garage door

To be fair you should consider all factors when deciding whether to get a solid garage door or a sectioned one. Just because more people are choosing the latter is no reason to simply “follow the crowd.” Remember that many folks, especially younger ones have never seen a solid garage door or if they have, they didn’t recognize it as such.

Let’s start with your springs. Garage door springs are an essential part of any garage door. They do the heavy lifting work each time you raise and lower your several hundred pound door. Since they work so hard, they tend to wear out after a while. Solid garage doors use tension springs that are mounted on either side of the door. Are these better? That depends; tension springs don’t last as long as torsion ones but they are less expensive to purchase.

Another possible reason for choosing a solid garage door over a sectioned one is the look. Some people prefer it, and if a solid garage door matches the style and appearance you want for your home, then that should be considered. Designers often offer this choice to their custom home clients as a “retro” look so if you are considering a solid garage door for design reasons be sure to see some in person and view plenty of online images to be sure.

Solid garage door drawbacks

One of the biggest problems with solid garage doors is their weight. Having the door broken up into sections helps to balance the weight but with solid garage doors, you must compromise by eliminating certain materials. Forget steel garage doors as they are much too heavy and aluminum doors as they are too fragile for the solid door design. Only wood garage doors are light enough to be used and even they are heavy enough to become tiresome and a chore to lift and lower again and again.

Another problem is durability. Since wood doors have to be used, dry rot, termites, holes and other problems can greatly affect the condition and upkeep of your solid door. Sure, you can paint your door but thin, wood garage doors are easy to damage and if any part of it becomes broken, the entire door must be replaced versus a section with the roll up doors.

Weight distribution

Another disadvantage of solid garage doors is weight distribution. This is not always evident at first, but over time, the uneven weight distribution of a solid door takes its toll. A sectional garage door displaces much of its weight evenly due to the framework and break-up into sections. In a solid garage door, the weight is concentrated at the center and over time, this type of door will collapse under its own weight, thereby needing replacement.

It’s your choice

Remember; your situation is unique. Are you replacing an existing garage door and considering making a change? Are you having a home built from scratch, and are considering your garage door options? Are you merely curious about the single piece garage doors that you remember from your childhood?

As you can see, there are many options to consider. There are several garage door shops in the Union City, GA region that offer both types of doors. Most will be happy to answer questions concerning their products, as well as their installation, maintenance and replacements. Feel free to ask questions. You can visit home improvement stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot and view their selection in person. You can also learn a lot from online research reading manufacturer’s product descriptions from Amazon or directly from their websites. Web videos are another way to learn about the benefits and disadvantages of sectioned garage doors and their solid counterparts.

DOES YOUR GARAGE DOOR HAVE A MIND OF ITS OWN? HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO!

Is your garage door opening and closing at random? There are several reasons this is happening:

Union-City-Switch-Repair

  1. Check the transmitter. It may be wedged under something that inadvertently depressed the remote control mechanism. In other words, some place, a button is stuck. The transmitter might be sitting under items you forgot in your vehicle, or underneath something else you left close by. If the LED light by the learn button is flashing continuously, then your garage door opener is receiving a steady signal from the remote control. (You’ll find the learn button above the antenna wire hanging from the motor head, or beneath the light cover. It’s either red, green, purple, yellow, or orange.) Take out the batteries in your remote, and if the light stops flashing, then a stuck button is the problem.
  2. Test the transmitter frequency, because maybe your neighbor’s remote has accidentally been programmed to the exact same frequency as yours. Erase the remote control from the memory of your garage door opener. Then, reprogram your remote controls and keyless entries.
  3. If neither of these turns out to be the issue, you might have a short in the wall-mounted door control, which means that unwanted signals are being sent to the garage door opener or the logic board (circuit board).
  • Does the garage door opener activate by itself while the wall-mounted door control panel wires are disconnected? You’ll probably have to replace the receiver logic board.
  • If the opener does not activate by itself while the wall-mounted door control panel is disconnected, then in all likelihood, it’s time to replace the wires to your wall-mounted door control panel.

  1. Besides a possible short in the logic board, there could be a short in the wall button, the wall button wiring, the wired keypad, the garage door opener remote, or any other electronic problems.

  1. It’s possible that your remote is sending out signals at random. This is often a sign you have a defective remote is or that the batteries are nearly worn out.

  1. Believe it or not, a local radio station, radio tower, CB radio, or police radio can all make a garage door open and shut by itself.

There are additional issues you can probably resolve yourself. When your garage door goes on the blink, there are many causes for the troubles you’re facing.

What if your garage door isn’t opening when you use the remote? There are several possibilities for this problem. 1. You might be out of range from the garage door. 2. Perhaps you have to charge or replace the batteries. 3. The garage door motor’s antenna is damaged, or it’s blocked from the signal. 4. Your remote needs to be reprogrammed.

Does the garage door opener run, yet the garage door still won’t budge? In case a power outage happens, your garage door opener has a disconnect switch, which means you can manually open or close your garage door. This switch is usually attached to a rope or a knob, which can come unhooked by mistake. Shut or open your garage door all the way, and then reattach the hook securely. Now the transmitter ought to be back to normal.

Does your garage door opener run for a few seconds, but then it turns off? This is something that can often occur if you have an older garage door. The garage door is shut, and the garage door motor tries to lift the door, yet it just won’t move. First off, look at the springs. If the springs aren’t broken, then you should inspect the track for any grime or small obstacles. If neither of these is the issue, see whether your garage door is the kind with a built-in lock that is engaging unintentionally.

More Complicated Issues Requiring Professional Attention

Does your garage door go part way down, but then open again? A garage door is designed with a reversing mechanism to stop it from smashing any object in its path. The reversing instruction is activated by any item that is blocking the path of the garage door ~ a trash can, a box, or a bicycle, for instance. Another possibility is that you have a buildup of debris on the tracks ~ grime or a tiny object ~ which stops the rollers from moving. Repair will call for the expertise of a garage door repair professional.

Did your garage door slam down fast with a loud bang? You probably have a broken spring, which now isn’t properly offsetting the weight of the garage door. Or, the cables are broken. In either case, this is a major problem, so consult with a professional garage door repair technician.

Your garage door track may be out of alignment. This scenario is also a serious problem. When the metal track isn’t aligned, the garage door won’t move one bit. Look for possible gaps between the rollers and the rail, and see if there are any bends in the rails. The considerable weight of the garage door will worsen all these issues eventually, so don’t procrastinate, because your garage door is bound to become more dangerous. It’s time to hire an expert.

It is definitely not a good idea to try adjusting the garage door yourself, unless you are an engineer! If you don’t have your garage door serviced properly, the garage door springs can actually go directly to a wall! Furthermore, there is the possibility of serious injury, and even death. The garage door bottom brackets, drums, and cables, likely also require adjusting. It’s not worth it to take any unnecessary risks. Unless you already know what you’re doing, then your best bet is to call a local garage door repair professional. If you live any place in Union City, Georgia, consider a reputable garage door technician you can count on, such as a mobile garage door repair specialist on staff at Garage Door Masters.

wider audience. Are you dealing with a garage door that will not open or close with the remote control? Are you having trouble figuring out why your garage door remote is not working? There are a couple of different possibilities as to why you could be facing this problem. For one, you might have a broken antenna on the garage door motor. It could also be failing to receive the proper signal because something is blocked or it is not in the correct spot. Regardless of what the reasoning might be, when you have a garage door that will not work, you have a frustrating situation on your hands. It is a great idea to contact a local garage door repair expert, but you can also take a look at some of the tips provided here. You might find that the solution is easier than it appears to be!

If your garage door will not open or close using the remote control, here are some things to check:

  1. If you are unable to use the remote while in your driveway because the garage door is not responding to it, then you might have a communication problem. Let’s say, for instance, that the garage door opener seems to be working as it is supposed to be, except when you try to use the remote control because for some reason it is not receiving the signal. You can make sure that this is the case by using the garage door button which is on your wall. You should initially check the batteries to see that they are not dead or draining. If you stand inside of your garage with the remote in your hand, does it work? If you try to use a different remote, do you still have the same issue? If the remote control does work while you are standing inside of the garage, then you very likely are dealing with a damaged antenna wire. You can move the antenna slightly to see if this makes any difference. The issue might be that the receiver which is mounted on the garage door opener isn’t properly doing its job. For issues involving the radio transmitter, you might want to contact an expert for assistance. Just remember that garage door openers use wiring and electrical parts that shouldn’t be handled by a novice without any experience. In a nutshell, if the issue is just a dead battery, the homeowner can usually fix it. But if the problem extends beyond dead batteries, it is a wise idea to get in touch with an expert.
  2. If you have checked the batteries and they don’t seem to be a point of concern, and if your remote control does work only while inside of the garage, then you could look into a universal garage door opener receiver. Basically, these work by extending the range of your remote control. Brands like LiftMaster create these devices, which can really make a huge difference in how you use your garage door and how convenient it is for you.
  3. Another option that some customers might be interested in is setting up their smartphone so that they can use an app to open and close their garage door, rather than having to use a remote control. This can save any trouble that might otherwise be caused by dead batteries, or by antennas that are falling, and other potential concerns.
  4. Finally, bear in mind that your garage door opener has a lock button. You might have mistakenly activated this portion of the garage door opener without even realizing it. It exists as a safety and security feature. Typically, people turn them on when they know they will be traveling out of town, or otherwise won’t be home for a few days. It would make your remote completely useless if the lock button were to be turned on. This of course is a very simple fix because you just have to deactivate the lock button, at least for the time being, until you want it to be activated once again.

Union City Repair Opener Sensor Issues

These are some of the most common solutions to garage door openers that will not respond to their remote control. Of course, the problem might be able to be resolved by purchasing a replacement garage door opener. You can also buy a new replacement garage door opener receiver, if this is what the issue is. Another thing that you can buy online is a safety beam. An expert will be able to pinpoint what the exact issue is when your garage door will not open or close with the remote. If you’re in Union City, GA then you should get on the phone with Garage Door Masters. But if you are located somewhere else in the United States, you should do a search online to pull up the best garage door repair company in your area. You are sure to find someone within close proximity to you. Also, be sure to talk with your neighbors and friends – see if they have a name that they recommend.

Be careful when working with the different components of your garage door. It can be tempting to try to resolve problems on your own, but often times, home owners end up doing even more damage by making simple mistakes. Hopefully you have found this information to be useful, and if you have a garage door remote control that is not working, you have a better idea of how to fix it.
